The Mexican Smooth-hound is a small, slender shark that grows to about 3 feet in length. It lives in shallow coastal waters, usually over sandy or muddy bottoms, where it feeds on crabs, shrimp, and small fishes. Unlike the larger, more famous sharks, smooth-hounds are gentle bottom-dwellers that play a quiet but important role in keeping marine ecosystems balanced. This species is especially interesting because it is found only in the eastern Pacific, making it unique to Mexico’s coastal waters.
