About Shark Jaws Online
Welcome to Shark Jaws Online
When I first started Fossils Online back in 1998, part of our catalog included shark jaws, especially those with collection data. The jaws came from research expeditions and many from old collections......all of them through Gordon Hubbell. He taught me how to prepare jaws back in the early 1990's. I would buy unprepared jaws from his storage freezer in the back room and spend the next week or so carefully using a scalpel to remove the extra tissue and whiten it using hydrogen peroxide. Using tape, a bucket (or some other round object) and some pieces of balsa wood, I would shape the jaw into an aesthetically pleasing shape that would display well. Like a homework assignment, I would bring it back to Gordon's house and see if I 'passed'. Years before Fossils Online was created, I would sit at his dining room table while he and Kate, his wife, watched "Home Improvement" and look through Tupperware containers full of the most amazing fossil great white teeth from Peru. (At the time, he was traveling to Peru to collect) I didn't know how lucky I was. Thirty three plus years later, I still have some of those teeth!
Anyhow, this website, Shark Jaws Online is solely dedicated to the jaws I have acquired through the years and most recently since he has decided to sell the parts of his collection that is not being donated to a university museum. This website will be temporary. Once our inventory of jaws that we will not be keeping for our small collection sells, the site will cease to exist.
