DESCRIPTION
This is a Dusky Smooth-hound (Mustelus canis) from Orange Cay, Bahamas. It once belonged to the collection of Dr. Gordon Hubbell, who assembled one of the world’s most important private collections of sharks.
NO INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING
The Dusky Smooth-hound is a smaller shark, usually no more than about 4 feet long. Unlike big predators like the Great White, smooth-hounds are gentle hunters that stick to the sandy bottoms of warm, shallow seas. They get their name from their smooth skin and dusky-gray color. Living in groups, they feed on crabs, shrimp, and little fish. Sharks like this are important because they show us how even the “smaller” sharks play a big role in keeping ocean ecosystems healthy.
